| Theodore Chletsos is quickly becoming a sought-after artist in opera and concert in the US and abroad, garnering praise for his plangent voice and dynamic stage presence. His Tenor offers an ideal combination of sheer power, warmth, and sweetness, perfect for the mainstays of Italian and French repertory. Chletsos’ roles include Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Alfredo in La Traviata, Anatol in Vanessa, the title role in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Don Jose in Carmen, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Rinuccio in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and Michael Ching’s recent sequel: Buoso’s Ghost, Tamino in Die Zauberflote, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Tom Norman in the North American premiere of Joseph Merrick, the Elephant Man, and has covered roles such as Mao in John Adams' Nixon in China, Rodolfo in La Boheme, Romeo in Romeo et Juliette, the title role in Werther, and Cavaradossi in Tosca. After making his debut in the role of Pinkerton with a stellar cast, including internationally-acclaimed Dutch soprano Annemarie Kremer and up-and-coming baritone Jonathan Carle at Green Mountain Opera Festival, led by distinguished conductor Timothy Vernon, Chletsos went on to make his European debut in the same role. Once again paired with Kremer in a new production, Chletsos performed to much acclaim in a tour of the Netherlands and Belgium, where he was universally praised for his "ringing high notes" and dramatic talents. He has been seen in leading and featured roles at many of the finest producing organizations in the US, such as the opera companies of Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Central City, Indianapolis, Utah, and Chautauqua, among others. Chletsos performed in the world premiere (and can be heard on the original cast recording) of Ricky Ian Gordon and Michael Korie's The Grapes of Wrath with Minnesota Opera and Utah Opera, and reprised his role with Pittsburgh Opera this past November. Chletsos’ concert work includes Verdi’s Requiem, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solonnelle, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, and Dvorak's Mass in D, as well as soli of several masses and choral works of Mozart and Schubert. Chletsos has been a soloist with the Minnesota Orchestra, the Oregon Symphony, the Orchestra of the Des Moines Metro Opera, and other presenting organizations across the country. Awards include the Shoshana Foundation’s prestigious Richard F. Gold Career Grant and participation on the Metropolitan Opera stage in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Semi-Finals in NYC in 2004. Theodore has participated in the training programs of Minnesota Opera, Central City Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Indianapolis Opera, and Sarasota Opera. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Carnegie Mellon University and pursued graduate studies at the University of Missouri Kansas City, where he performed Tamino in Die Zauberflote and Judge Danforth in Robert Ward's The Crucible. Chletsos recently made his Carnegie Hall and New York City Opera debut this season in Barber's Antony and Cleopatra, conducted by George Manahan and featuring Lauren Flanigan, Teddy Tahu Rhodes, and Simon O’Neill.
